GBVR Mission Statement: (Revised 08/08)Greater Brandywine Village Revitalization, Inc. is a not-for-profit community development corporation committed to rebuilding historic Brandywine Village in northeast Wilmington. A participating Delaware Main Street partner, the organization is leading the effort to create a safe and viable community honoring the Village’s 250 year heritage. The blueprint for our work is the community’s Comprehensive Master Plan, approved by City Council, which addresses housing conditions, real estate development, economic development, commercial revitalization, safety, transportation, quality of life and historic preservation.
GBVR Vision statement for Brandywine Village (Created 08/08) Brandywine Village will be a culturally and economically diverse, age-friendly, attractive community – a village with a sense of place on the Brandywine, a gateway to downtown Wilmington, and an identity as a desirable place to live, work or own a business. There will be healthy balance of owner-occupied homes with households of varying incomes. There will be a variety of architectural styles that preserve the character of the area yet reflect creativity. The historic assets of Brandywine Village will be complimented with modern and compatible redevelopment. There will be clean, safe, tree lined neighborhood streets that reflect a sense of place on the Brandywine and that will include pathways connecting the entire neighborhood with the Brandywine, the surrounding parks and downtown Wilmington. Market Street will be a “main street” that has preserved its historic assets through adaptive reuse and has a mix of businesses that support the basic needs of the Village residents, workers and visitors. Brandywine Village will be seen as an attractive and profitable area to locate a business.
Since the site will be evolving as the needs of our community change, we would like to hear from you. Please tell us what you think of the new web site and what type of information might be helpful.
